There’s nothing quite as country as visiting your local farm to gather some fresh, seasonal flowers. Located just 45-minutes from Chattanooga, Tennessee are the vibrant fields of Lorenzen Farm. For a limited time each season, the Lorenzen Farm welcomes folks from near and far to stroll the beautiful floral fields, pick tulips, and enjoy a day on the homestead. Want the details on how (and when) to visit this magical farm? Here’s your guide to the floral fields of Lorenzen Farm.

+ When to visit Lorenzen Farm

The Lorenzen Farm is not just a field full of vibrant colors and sweet fragrances… it’s an actual working farm located in Dayton, Tennessee. That’s why it’s crucial to mark your calendars. Every spring and summer, the Lorenzen Farm opens it’s fields to the public but only for a limited time.

  • The month of March: Tulip picking
  • The months of July – August: Sunflower picking

For a small entry fee of $5 (per person) and $1.50 per stem (or $18 per a dozen tulip), the Lorenzen Farm provides friends, families, and locals with a one-of-a-kind experience at an affordable price.

+ What to Wear

You’ll want to dress for some mess at the Lorenzen Farm. That being said, these floral fields do provide a very instagrammable moment for you and your loved ones. So, there’s no need to shy away from a stylish outfit. Here’s what to wear for picture worthy photos on the farm.

  • Wear closed toed shoes and/or boots and high socks to protect your legs from mud and/or any insects that may be in the field. If visiting after a rainstorm, I personally recommend wearing boots with some grip on to ensure there’s no slippage.
  • If you’re looking for cute clothes with coverage, jean overalls, long dresses (that cover the majority of your legs and/or arms), and comfortable jeans are always a great go-to for photos.
  • Hat and/or sunglasses to protect your skin and eyes from UV rays. You may notice that I wore one of my many adventure hats during our visit at the Lorenzen Farm!
  • Extra layers as needed to dress appropriately for the weather (i.e. coats, jackets, etc.).

+ Pro Tips

  • Plan your farm visit ahead of time.
  • If possible, plan your floral picking on a weekday to avoid crowds.
  • Visit the gift shop ahead of time to purchase beverages that you can stroll the fields with. Hot chocolate on a cold 34 degree day hit the spot for me!
  • Well-behaved fur babies are welcome to join family fun on the farm! The perfect photo op for the entire family.
  • Professional photographers are welcome to photograph their clients in the fields for an affordable price of $30 per visit (or $100 season pass).
  • If traveling from afar, bring a vase and fill it with water; treat your florals to some H20 while you’re on the road.
  • To ensure your florals last as long as possible, peel the tulip leaves back, change your vase water often, and you can even try putting a penny at the bottom of your vase. Tulips love copper and cold weather!
