Unveiling Mud Water Will Rise: My Journey Through Southern Poetry and Political Reform

Hey y’all, Chelsea Chatts here and I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you: my upcoming poetry collection, Mud Water Will Rise, is on the horizon! This book is close to my heart, and I can’t wait for you to experience it this Fall.

+ A Fresh Take on Southern Living

Mud Water Will Rise is my love letter to the American South—its beauty, its complexities, and everything in between. From the familiar comfort of biscuits and gravy to the chilling tales of ghostly lore, this collection dives deep into what it means to be Southern in the 21st century. My poems aim to celebrate the charm of Southern life while also peeling back the layers to reveal the nuanced, and sometimes difficult, realities beneath.

I’ve tried to capture the essence of Southern identity in all its vibrancy, pride, and resilience through not only my own experiences as a Southern transplant, but also from the perspectives of other individuals within the Chattanooga community. It’s more than just a collection of verses; it’s an exploration of our shared experiences, from the traditions we cherish to the challenges we face. I hope my poetry offers both a familiar embrace and a new perspective on the South.

+ Beyond The Poetry: A Push for Political Change

But here’s where it gets really interesting. Mud Water Will Rise isn’t just about celebrating Southern culture—it also tackles some serious issues. I’m including a wealth of nonpartisan resources aimed at addressing political corruption and systemic problems that continue to plague America. Here’s a peek at what’s inside:

  • The Best of Tennessee: Insights into effective governance and ways to get involved in your community.
  • Voices for a Safer Tennessee: Advocating for common sense gun laws to make Tennessee communities safer.
  • Keep Chatt Clean: Our grassroots volunteer group focuses on cleaning up our environment and making an immediate impact on our local Chattanooga community.
  • Represent Us: Fighting for a fairer political system and combating corruption.

These resources are there to empower you, to turn the words on the page into action. I want this book to do more than just resonate emotionally—I want it to inspire real change. And let’s be clear, this isn’t about what political party you belong to or what candidates you support. This is about changing our system and electing leaders who will listen to the people.

+ Why This Matters

As Mud Water Will Rise approaches its release, I can’t help but feel a mix of nerves, excitement, and hope. This book is my way of honoring the South’s rich culture while also challenging us to address the issues that need our attention. It’s a blend of lyrical beauty and practical activism, and I’m eager for you to join me on this journey.

Stay tuned for more information about the release! I hope you’ll find inspiration and insight in these pages. Let’s explore the South together, celebrate its spirit, and work towards making a difference. Want to be more involved? Consider joining my launch team and let’s chatt.
